An Atlanta Social Security Disability Attorney Talks About Appealing Your Case

If you lost your Social Security Disability case, an Atlanta Social Security disability attorney can guide you through the appeals process.
Having a claim rejected is common. It takes perseverance and a little hard work to get a claim to be accepted in the appeals process. If you work with an experienced disability attorney, you are more likely to see a reversal in your claim.
How to Appeal
Your denial letter will describe the steps you need to take to appeal. The first appeal is known as a “reconsideration.” You will request a reconsideration. If that is denied, you must request a hearing.
There are three ways to appeal:
- Call the Social Security Administration (SSA) and arrange for your request to be filed over the phone or by mail.
- Submit your appeal in-person at the Social Security office. Make sure you bring your denial letter.
- Appeal online at https://secure.ssa.gov/apps6z/iAppeals/ap001.jsp. Make sure you keep a copy of the receipt as proof of filing.
How Long You Have to Appeal
You have a window of 60 days to appeal any denied claim. It is best for you to appeal right away. The quicker you work, the quicker you will process through the system. Waiting to the last minute may result in you missing the deadline due to unforeseen circumstances, and the SSA will not likely make an exception.
